For more than 40 years, GAC has been a leading presence across India’s maritime and logistics sector, enabling vessels and cargo to access dozens of ports around the clock with comprehensive and expert-led ship agency services.
Its expert local knowledge and customer-focused approach to its range of shipping, logistics and marine services means it has built a strong reputation within the shipping community as a reliable and efficient agency partner for customers looking to access the world’s fifth-largest economy.
That approach led to it being named Ship Agency of the Year at the ShipTek International Awards in Mumbai in October this year, for the second consecutive time.
The accolade came hot on the heels of the company being part of the GAC team that picked up the Ship Agency of the Year award at The Maritime Standard Awards 2024 in Dubai for its role in supporting the Middle East and Indian Subcontinent. It was sixth time GAC has received the honour in recognition of its dedication to excellence, innovation and customer focus.
“These award wins are down to the incredible efforts of the more than 400 dedicated professionals we have here in GAC India,” says GAC India’s Managing Director Ravi Ramachandran.
“Winning time after time demonstrates our team’s consistent commitment to delivering superior value and service levels to customers calling at more than 60 ports and terminals throughout India.”
Cruise news
GAC India’s agency accolades follow the team being named Best International Cruise Port Agent at the 2024 Aqua Cruise & Maritime Tourism Awards for the second year in a row.
The cruise sector has been highlighted as another area of growth for India as part of its Maritime India Vision 2030. With rising demand and disposable incomes, it is expected that the Indian cruise market could increase eight-fold, attracting global players to the region as it looks to access India’s ocean, coastal and river cruise markets.
“We focus on ensuring a seamless experience for visiting passengers and crew from the cruise sector. We do this by leveraging our deep knowledge of Indian regulations, excellent relationship with authorities and high international standards of service delivery. All of this means GAC is established name that can support India’s burgeoning cruise market,” he adds.
Energy boost
With India’s renewable energy market set to reach US$80 billion by 2023, the country aims to install 500 GW of capacity by 2030. GAC India’s dedicated Energy team has years of experience in supporting the logistics and shipping needs of energy projects locally and regionally.
Ravi says: “While strengthening our foothold in traditional oil & gas, we are ready to provide critical support for complex green energy projects in the burgeoning renewable energy sector.”
Expertise
One of the keys to that success is the company’s commitment to nurturing and retaining knowledgeable and experienced talent. GAC India’s team of over 400 professionals operates from 28 offices across the country.
With India’s growing importance as a part of the global supply chain, the need for experts on the ground to support expanding numbers of vessels and cargo types has become increasingly important. This is particularly important as Maritime India Vision 2030 looks to further enhance the country's logistics, infrastructure and shipping sectors over the coming years.
Among other things, the country is looking to develop world-class port infrastructure, enhance logistics efficiency through technology and innovations, strengthen policy frameworks and lead the way for a greener and more sustainable maritime sector.
Whilst doing so, ensuring an established and reliable ship agent is present at India’s major ports, terminals and waterways is vital to ensure smooth vessel operations when docked.
Investment and innovation
“Our strong team of professionals ensure fast turnaround of vessels, and are able to navigate complex regulatory challenges in a compliant manner and provide clear transparent communications, helping our customers to keep their vessels and cargo moving on time and on budget,” says Ravi.
“We also invest in exciting up and coming talent, working closely with young professionals from leading universities that bring unorthodox and dynamic ideas, particularly in the areas of technology and Artificial Intelligence, to help us solve complex business problems and ensure GAC India remains at its innovative best.”
