Half century in Hong Kong

This year, GAC Hong Kong is celebrating five decades of excellence.

Timeline

From small beginnings as a trading office in 1974, the company is now a fully integrated shipping and logistics service provider in the Greater Bay area - covering the Hong Kong and Macau special administrative regions, the Pearl River Delta in Guangdong province, with its operations office in Shenzhen acting as a single contact point for access to all ports in South China.

GAC Hong Kong also provides an extensive portfolio of logistics and end-to-end supply chain services.

Some of the highlights of 50 years in Hong Kong include the following:

  • 1984
    Full forwarding business is established, along with a NVOCC service, to cater for the territory’s growing cargo volumes.

  • 1985
    Quick despatch business, akin to owner’s protecting agency, is set up to grant priority to vessels for fast loading and discharging in port. This evolved to provide full shipping agency support for Hong Kong.

  • 1999
    GAC Hong Kong opens its first airfreight warehouse, with a capacity of 8,000 square feet.

  • 2000
    A change of tempo as GAC is trusted with the logistics support from set-up to showtime for a major entertainment event for the first time – a concert by Latino-pop icon Ricky Martin. Since then, they have supported performances by many other artists including global stars like Celine Dion, Britney Spears and Sting.

  • 2006
    GAC Hong Kong provides ship agency and logistics support when the Swedish classic sailing ship Gotheburg calls at Hong Kong at part of its expedition to China.

  • 2015
    Maersk Line appointed GAC Hong Kong to handle all their vessels in a partnership that prioritises transparency, reliability, and integrity.

  • 2018
    The Volvo Ocean Race circus comes to town, with GAC Hong Kong and GAC Pindar working together to provide seamless specialised logistics services for the competitors, their support teams and the broadcast village following the epic round-the-world sailing race.
