With global demand for efficient and timely e-commerce services on the rise, the Middle East continues to be a dominant logistics hub.
Linking Asia to Europe and home to some of the world's biggest and most advanced logistics networks, major players across the region are now adapting to a more demanding consumer base and ensuring they can meet the challenges of evolving market trends head on.
GAC is staying ahead of the curve to reinforce its position as a leader in contract logistics services across the United Arab Emirates and the wider region. It is now combining its renowned experience and customer-led services with some of the best warehousing technology available worldwide, creating a seamless and industry-leading package that is capable of handling the demands of the e-commerce market.
Manhattan SCALE
GAC Dubai has started using the Manhattan SCALE warehouse management system (WMS) to meet increasing customer demands, ensure efficient productivity and enable it to become more integrated with the increasing number of customers looking to access the Middle Eastern market.
“We recognised the need for a modern approach to meet evolving market demands,” says Trevor Stamp, GAC Dubai’s General Manager of Contract Logistics. “The traditional ‘pallet-in, pallet-out’ approach simply is not up to the challenge.
“There is greater demand for planning, labour management and forecasting systems today than ever before. To meet that demand, we have adopted the Manhattan system to provide us with the flexibility and versatility we needed to ensure we can operate at our very best.”
“This is the biggest change to contract logistics at GAC we’ve seen in 25 years,” adds Stamp. “Previously, we could have 100 different customers and 100 different ways of working. Today, we have a much simpler format that we can roll out instantaneously and give them the confidence to know they are working with a partner and a system that will go above and beyond their needs.
“Manhattan enables us to make better judgements and smarter moves. It makes our operatives on the floor more effective, facilitates faster turnaround times, meets customer demands and immediately increases our throughput.
“This all comes from increased access to data that the new system puts at our fingertips. Having access to more information a major benefit for our team in Dubai, and for our customers too. They can see, in real time, where their cargo is and what we are doing with it.”
Meeting demand
New and established customers have already transitioned to the platform and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Plans are now in place to expand the system’s rollout in 2025, with full implementation for all GAC Dubai customers by the end of next year.
As Stamp notes, demand for the new system is already high: “We already have customers knocking on our door, wanting to be on the new platform. We’re actually having to slow customers down at the moment. Rest assured, we are making sure that all of customers will be on the system over the coming months.”
“We’ve had one customer using the platform who said that if everything goes well, they would look to move another of their business lines to GAC. This means rolling the Manhattan software to GAC Malaysia so it looks like we are already opening up doors for other businesses and GAC sites,” says Stamp.
Technology and talent
GAC is committed to staying ahead of its competition in the Middle East logistics market by combining the Manhattan system with its team of industry leaders with decades of industry experience.
“GAC has long had a competitive edge in Dubai. And by having the tools and systems to remain one step ahead and support our customers, we are committed to remaining the industry leader in e-commerce and contract logistics in the Middle East for the next 60 years and beyond,” says Stamp.
“It is also down to our team of operators, many of whom have been with us for decades and know our customers inside and out. This next phase of our development will give them the tools they need to make them more effective and give them the freedoms they need to develop and support our customers.”
By combining decades of expertise and knowledge with one of the world’s most renowned WMS technology, GAC Dubai is set to redefine contract logistics market in the Middle East, paving the way for a more efficient and prosperous future.
