Yaas set to intensify further

Severe Cyclonic Storm Yaas over East-Central Bay and adjoining area moved northwestwards and now lies over Northwest Bay and adjoining area (near latitude 18.2 deg. N & longitude 88.5 deg. E). It was centred at 9am today (25 May) about 575km SSW of Chattogram Port, 525km SW of Cox's Bazar Port, 490km SSW of Mongla Port and 465km SSW from Payra Port.

The severe cyclonic storm is likely to intensify further and move in a north-northwesterly direction.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 64km of the severe cyclone centre is about 89kph rising to 117lph in gusts/squalls. Sea will remain high near the cyclone centre.

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted Distant Warning Signal Number Two (R) Two.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to take shelter and remain in shelter until further notice.
