Warning strike underway

13 Feb 2025 / Hamburg, Germany

The union ver.di Hamburg is calling on its members to take part in a comprehensive warning strike from 06:00 hours today (13 February) to 16:00 hours tomorrow.

The pilot transfer service as well as barrages, locks and movable bridges in the area of responsibility of the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) will be affected by the strike.

An emergency service agreement has been made with ver.di. The HPA is endeavouring to keep the impact on the port as minimal as possible with the goal of ensuring limited transfer operations so that ships can continue to reach and leave the Port of Hamburg. The Nautical Centre continuously evaluates the traffic situation and organizes the arrivals and departures accordingly in order to ensure that the port is accessible.

Despite such efforts, restrictions in shipping traffic may arise and it is possible that vessel may not be able to enter or leave.

Adjustments to the traffic flow control will be communicated as usual with the ship broker or the HVCC.

The movable bridges (Rethe double bascule bridge, Kattwyk bridges, Reiherstieg bascule bridge, bascule bridge at the Estemündung barrage, Cranzer Rollbrücke) will not be open during the strike period.
