Tropical Storm Seroja update (8 April)

The ports of Dampier and Port Hedland are now at Cyclone Alert Stage 1 – Monitor, as Tropical Cyclone Seroja is set to produce dangerous weather on the west coast of Australia on Sunday or Monday.

At 8:00am AWST today (8 April), Seroja was a Category 1 storm with sustained winds near the centre of 75km per hour and wind gusts to 100km per hour. It was located 670km northwest of Karratha and 650km north northwest of Exmouth and moving west southwest at 29km per hour.

It is forecast to strengthen as it tracks to the southwest over open waters, north of Western Australia. During Saturday it is expected to take a more southerly track while remaining well offshore from the west coast. On Sunday it is expected to turn to the southeast towards the west coast and make landfall most likely later Sunday or Monday between Coral Bay and Perth. There is likely to be destructive winds, very heavy rainfall and higher than normal tides close to Seroja's path.
