Tropical Cyclone Seroja

Tropical Cyclone Seroja is moving towards the west southwest, away from the Indonesian Archipelago, and well north of Western Australia.

At 8:00am AWST, Tropical Cyclone Seroja a category 2 intensity system with sustained winds near the centre of 95 km per hour with wind gusts to 130 km per hour. It was located within 45 km of 11.4 degrees South, 119.8 degrees East , 770 km north northwest of Broome and 245 km west southwest of Sabu (Indonesia) and moving west southwest at 14 km per hour.

Tropical Cyclone Seroja will continue tracking west southwest over the next few days, over open waters well to the north of Western Australia. Although the cyclone is expected to remain offshore, there is a risk that it approaches the far west Pilbara or Gascoyne coast on Friday and the weekend.

The ports of Dampier and Port Hedland are now at Cyclone Alert Stage 1 – Monitor.

Shipping operations will continue as planned. Adjustments will be made by terminals based on prevalent and expected weather and swell conditions associated with the tropical system.
