Transit restrictions update

24 Nov 2023 / Panama Canal, Panama

Despite the introduction of more efficient lockages and fewer transits, water availability remains a concern in the Panama Canal, following the driest October in 73 years.

As a result, without a booking, it is very difficult to estimate vessel waiting times and transit delays.

The Canal is starting to implement cloud seeding technology which, if successful, could increase the rainfall by up to 10%. However, if conditions worsen the next restriction would likely be related to draft restrictions.

It is therefore strongly recommended to book transit as early as possible.
