Traffic suspended as fire-fighting operation continues

07 Jul 2020 / Dardanelles, Turkey

Vessel traffic in the Dardanelles was suspended in the early hours of this morning (7 July) as efforts to bring a large forest fire under control continued. The fire fighting efforts include the use of plane/helicopter in the Strait. Southbound vessel traffic was due to be resumed at midday/early afternoon.

The authorities may consider suspending vessel traffic again tomorrow morning (8 July), if the use of the plane and helicopters is still needed in the fire fighting operation.
