Traffic suspended after vessels collide

03 Oct 2024 / Bosphorus, Turkey

Vessel traffic in the Bosphorus was suspended at 17:00 hours local time today (3 October) after two ships collided in the southern entry area.

The incident occurred when one of the vessels - a livestock carrier - was exiting the Strait in a southbound direction and the other ship – a bulk carrier - was entering in the northbound direction.

Coastal Safety tugs “Kurtarma 5” and “Kurtarma 7” will escort both vessels to the Istanbul southern anchorage area for further investigation.

Northbound traffic resumed shortly thereafter.
