Traffic suspended after vessel runs aground

Vessel traffic in the Bosphorus resumed at 05:30 hours local time this morning (2 September) after being suspended last night when a general cargo vessel suffered rudder failure and ran aground while transiting from north to south.

VTS Istanbul sent the rescue vessel “NENE HATUN” and tugs ‘’Kurtarma 5”, “Kurtarma 3’’, “Kurtarma 9”, “Kurtarma 6” and “Nazım Tur” to the incident location for the rescue operation.

The vessel was towed to the Bosphorus Anchorage area by tugboats and the salvage operation commenced at 00:10 hours local time.

An investigation has been launched.
