Super Cyclone makes landfall

26 May 2021 / Odisha, India

Super Cyclone Yaas hit the Odisha coast this morning (26 May), making landfall between Dhamra and Balasore, and hitting Dhamra port, from around 0900 hours local time.

The cyclone battered the northern coastline of Odisha with powerful winds and rains, with sustained wind speed of 130-140 kmph gusting up to 155 kmph.

After landfall is complete, the system is very likely to move northwestwards across interior districts of Odisha and weaken gradually. It is estimated that it will take at least another 24 hours before Cyclone Yaas degenerates.

Vessel movements at all ports along the region (Vizag, Gangavaram, Paradip, Gopalpur, Dhamra, Haldia & Kolkata) remain suspended, until fair weather conditions prevail.
