Submarine cable system trenching, rocksaw & cable laying along East Johor Strait

From 21 June to 7 October, SJC2 submarine cable system trenching, rocksaw & cable laying operations will be conducted along East Johor Strait.

According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore Port Marine Notice No.49 of 2024, the work is being carried out 24 hours daily - including Sundays & Public Holidays - within the working area bounded by the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum):

Works in the respective working areas will be carried out in 3 stages following the schedule below:

Working Area “B”
- Injector Works: From 22 to 23 June
- Rocksaw Operations: From 6 to 7 July
- Cable Laying Operations: From 8 to 13 August

Working Area “C”
- Injector Works: From 24 to 29 June
- Rocksaw Operations: From 8 to14 July
- Cable Laying Operations: From 14 to 21 August

Working Area “D”
- Injector Works: From 30 June to 6 July
- Rocksaw Operations: From 15 to 30 July
- Cable Laying Operations: From 22 to 31 August

The works will be carried out by the cable laying barge “ASEAN Protector”. The safety zone is a circular area with a radius of 150-metre centered at the location from the barge.

A safety boat will be deployed to warn other craft in the vicinity of the working area.

Craft involved in the works will exhibit the appropriate local and international day and night signals.

When in the vicinity of the working area, mariners are reminded to:
a) Keep well clear and not to enter the working area;
b) Maintain a proper lookout;
c) Proceed at a safe speed and navigate with caution;
d) Maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 21 (Sembawang Control);
and
e) Communicate with Sembawang Control on VHF Channel 21 for assistance, if required.
