Stoppage in Canal

A LNG ship with a draft of 11,20 meters stopped at KM 142 (southern part) of the Suez Canal while transiting en route from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea as No.9 with the southbound convoy at about 2200 hours local time yesterday (22 August).

Suez Canal tugs were engaged immediately (three tugs) and currently the ship underway to exit the canal from Suez port and to wait at Suez outer anchorage.

The first 8 vessels in front were not affected, but 22 vessels in the southbound convoy behind stopped ship are resuming canal transit.

No damage or pollution has been reported by SCA released so far, after limited collision Between the LNG ship and a tanker ship behind it.

Ships in yesterday’s northbound convoy were not affected by this stoppage and have already exited the Canal.

Ships behind the stoppage are resuming and the last vessel in the southbound convoy is expected to exit the Canal at about 2000 hours local time today (23 August).

Today’s northbound convoy is expected to start transiting at about 2200 hours local time with a free run from Suez to Port Said.

The entering time for convoys for 24 August will be delayed. The Suez Canal Authority hopes to avoid further delays.
