Ship channel closure to submerge dredge pipeline

To facilitate safe submerging of Orion Marine’s dredge pipeline, the Captain of the Port will establish a safety zone in the Corpus Christi Ship Channel on Monday June 29, 2020 from 9am through noon.

The safety zone will be located from position 27 deg. 49'03.96"N, 097 deg. 27'14.82"W to position 27 deg. 49'15.50"N, 097 deg. 27'2.52"W in vicinity of the Tule Lake Basin.

No vessel shall transit through the safety zone without permission from the U.S. Coast Guard.

Orion will lay approximately 1600-feet of 20-inch diameter steel dredge pipeline on the floor of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel. The dredge pipeline will remain there for approximately 100 days while Dredge WAYMON BOYD conducts dredging. Per Orion, the depth above the pipeline will be approximately 48-feet on average. The pipeline will come up along the toe of the channel and be marked with buoys with flashing lights.
