Severe weather advisory

20 Dec 2022 / Bahamas

A low pressure system associated with a frontal boundary across Gulf of Mexico and Florida is forecast to move eastward and over the extreme Northwest Bahamas on Wednesday 21 December.

Severe weather consisting of strong to severe thunderstorms, torrential rainfall, possible tornadic and funnel cloud activity is expected for the islands of Bimini, Grand Bahama and Abaco…

…Furthermore, mariners and beachgoers in the extreme Northwest Bahamas should expect strong gusty winds to gale force strength (34 to 40 knots), rough seas, dangerous surfs and life-threatening rip currents. Therefore, small craft operators are advised to remain in port Tuesday night through Wednesday night.

The Bahamas Depart of Meteorology (BDM) will continue to monitor the system and will issue further updates if and when necessary.
