Russian shipping interests at UK ports

01 Mar 2022 / United Kingdom

The UK’s Department of Transport has requested the country’s ports not to accommodate Russian shipping interests.

In a letter to the ports issued yesterday (28 February), the Secretary of State Grant Shapps stated:

“From this point onwards, UK ports are asked not to provide access to any ship which they have reason to believe is:
- Owned, controlled, chartered or operated by any person connected with Russia
- Owned, controlled, chartered or operated by Designated Persons
- Flying the Russian flag
- Registered in Russia.”

Further detailed sanctions against Russian shipping interests are being developed and details will be shared shortly.
