With shortage of domestic edible oil pushing up the need to increase imports quickly, Indian Customs have put up special motoring and import clearance procedures to reduce the clearance time for such edible oil consignments to about 3-4 days.
Nodal officers have also been nominated in all the Customs zones and a standard operating procedure has also been put in place for smooth clearance. Customs is continuously monitoring the import clearances of edible oils in co-ordination with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
Measures recently taken regarding edible oil include reduction of customs duty on edible crude palm oil from 35.75% to 30.25% and on refined palm oil from 49.5% to 41.25%. Further, the restriction on import of refined palm oil has also been lifted till December 31.
