Red alert for heavy rains

Due to continuous heavy rains that lashed parts of Gujarat on Monday, flooding low-lying areas, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘red alert’ warning for several districts.

More rain is expected with the IMD forecasting “heavy to very heavy rains” with isolated extremely heavy downpours expected in several districts of the state until Thursday morning.

Officials said 13 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and 22 teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were deployed across the State to deal with potential flooding and disaster-like situations.

Port updates:

  • KANDLA:
    Port operations impacted severely due to heavy rainfall. Productivity on vessels alongside has dropped.

  • MUNDRA:
    Terminal operations put on hold from 2100 hours yesterday (26 August) due to heavy rainfall and wind. Vessel movements have been suspended. Productivity on vessels alongside has dropped.

  • PIPAVAV/BEDI/OKHA:
    Port operations suspended.

  • DAHEJ/HAZIRA:
    No impact. Port operations continue as normal.

Warning Signal LCS-III has been hoisted at all Gujarat Ports.
