Preparation for possible storm impact

31 Jul 2020 / Bahamas

Officials in the Bahamas have outlined measures in preparation for the upcoming Tropical Storm Isaias, which has now strengthened.

Tropical Storm Isaias is now forecast to reach 70 knot sustained winds as it moves across the Bahamas. Thereafter, a less favorable environment will begin to slowly degrade the system, with weakening as it tracks near the US East coast and dissipation by the end of the forecast period as it passes the Canadian Maritimes. It is forecast to become a hurricane as it edges closer to South Florida today or tonight (31 July).

The track remains largely unchanged from the previous forecast, moving directly over Nassau and Freeport, but now is slightly shifted westward to include portions of the US East Coast in tropical storm force conditions.
