10 Feb 2025 / Pilbara coast, Australia
Pilbara Ports have advised that Dampier, Ashburton, Cape Preston and Varanus Island are at Stage 2 ‘Prepare’ due to the tropical low (18U) is slowly developing near the northwest Kimberley coast.
Based on the current lack of development 18U is now unlikely todevelop into a tropical cyclone before Wednesday. Guidance generally favours the system remaining slow moving in a generally southwest direction through most of the week.
Even though the most likely track indicates a coastal crossing around the central Pilbara late in the week, the entire Pilbara and western Kimberley coast remains equally at risk of an impact. The environment is moderately favourable for development and the risk remains of 18U reaching a Category 3 while still over the ocean.
