Port dues discounts for eco-friendly vessels

31 Jan 2025 / New Mangalore, India

To promote green shipping under ‘Harit Sagar’ Green Port Guideline issued by MoPSW, it has been decided to award eco-friendly vessels on the basis of ESI score given by IAPH.

A scheme “Harit Shrey” is proposed to be initiated, wherein the efforts of ship owners are recognised and appreciated by way of providing discounts in port charges with the approval of the Board, as follows:

To fix the quantum of discount on the Port Dues component of the Vessel related Charges, for all vessels calling at berth of NMPA for the purpose of cargo operations (loading/unloading):
a) which have an ESI score of 30 or more but less than 40 – Half a percent (0.5%)
b) which have an ESI score of 40 or more but less than 50 – One percent (1.0%)
c) which have an ESI score of 50 or more – One and a half a percent (1.5%)

To avail such accounts the vessel agent will have to produce vessel master’s countersigned copy of the certificate issued by IAPH, clearly listing out the ESI score.

All vessels calling at NMPA will have to mandatorily submit the certificate mentioned above irrespective of whether the discussed mentioned is applicable or not. If a vessel is not having such a certificate then a self-declaration form the vessel or the agent must be submitted stating that the vessel is not having an ESI score issued by IAPH.

These discounts shall be applicable to all vessels calling at ports berths immediately and will be valid until 31 March 2025 and will be reviewed thereafter.
