Pilotage suspended due to strong force gale wind conditions

02 Sep 2024 / Port Kembla, Australia

A vessel was unable to berth at Port Kembla this morning (2 September) as the pilot suspended inbound movements due to excessive winds.

At 09.15 hours local time, the vessel was heaving anchor before heading to the inner pilot boarding ground. At the time, the wind had increased to gusts of approximately 50 knots from the West at the Eastern Breakwall. Due to the forecasted increasing winds to over 50knots, pilot decided to defer pilotage until later in the afternoon.

The wind is due to peak around 1500 hours this afternoon and pilotage to resume early evening, weather permitting.
