New vessel flag waiver rules

Due to increased numbers of Bangladesh flag vessels presently available for trade, the waiver notification has been amended to liberate the carriage of cargo by third country flag vessels and declared a general waiver.

The relevant section of the Bangladesh Flag Vessels (protection) Act 2019, is as follows:

(1) Any cargo when carried between Bangladesh and
(a) United States of America
(b) Canada

(2) Any of the following cargo when carried between Bangladesh and any other countries:
(a) all kinds of care carried by car carrier.

The General Waiver Notification No.DG/NTL/SHIPPING/2013/6023(7) DATED 04.08.2013 should be treated as cancelled.

No Objection Certificate must be obtained from the Director General, Department of Shipping, prior to chartering any third country flag vessel to carry cargo from and to Bangladesh other than mentioned above.
