New rules for bulk carrier vessel passages

18 Sep 2024 / Dardanelles, Turkey

New rules have been implemented for the passage of bulk carrier vessels through the Dardanelles Strait.

Bulk carrier vessels with LOA over 250 meters and carrying dangerous cargo with UN number, will effect their passage during daylight under pilotage assistance and with an escort tug.

Bulk carrier vessels with LOA between 200 meters to 249,99 meters and carrying dangerous cargo with UN number, will effect their passage during daylight under pilotage assistance.

This change may affect average passage delays at Dardanelles, unless bulk carriers are scheduled to transit between two tankers.

Today (18 September), one bulk carrier was scheduled to transit between two tankers and it did not affect the tanker programme.
