Navigation restrictions

31 Jul 2023 / Pipapav, India

Pipapav Port has issued a memo about navigation restrictions for vessels berthing day or night but subject to a tidal window before the next high water or up to 45 minutes after low water.

In addition to the tidal window, during the ebb tide, it is possible to berth/unberth a vessel at any stage of tide but she will be berthed/unberthed if port side alongside. A vessel that is starboard side alongside will generally not be un berthed during the ebb. However, container vessels less than 230 metres LOA with sound operational history can be considered for movements anything during the day/night.

It is mandatory to have an operational ‘Laser Range Finder’ for all such vessels with LOA 330 metres or more.

RoRo vessels berthing will ONLY be executed in a wind speed of 23 knots or less.

Special restrictions for vessels arriving/sailing with maximum draft for the port:
Such vessels will wait in safer waters well outside the port limit. On receiving instructions from the Port Control, such vessels shall start approaching the pilot station. A vessel that is to sail at maximum draft will cast off 45 minutes before/after the HW.

Monsoon season is considered to be from 1 June to 15 September every year. During this period, the maximum permissible draft will be reduced to 13.5 metres for all container/bulk vessels calling at Port Pipavav.

Navigation off the channel entrance:
Pilotage is compulsory for all vessels. Entering vessels shall not pass the fairway buoy without a pilot on board. Outbound vessels must disembark pilots between fairway and the last pair of buoys (Nos. 1 & 2). In case some exception has to be made due to rough weather conditions, port authorities will notify vessels and/or agents in advance.
