Month-long strike continues

15 May 2024 / Gangavaram, India

Negotiations between striking employees and the port authorities at Gangavaram last week remained inconclusive, and the strike continues.

Protesters have stopped movement of manpower and materials, including raw material supplies to critical power and steel units, and insist that all their demands be first met. This deadlock has persisted for a month now.

The disruption at Gangavaram port has halted coal transfers, leaving over 314,000 tonnes stranded. The supply of raw materials to the plant has been stalled resulting in slashing production capacity by 60%.
