Monsoon preparedness measures

The authorities at Jawaharlal Nehru Port are urging strict compliance with norms for monsoon preparedness following a recent incident where a mooring rope loosen and the vessel drifting away from the fender.

Measures in force from 1 June to 30 September include:

  • All vessels in port to keep their main engines on standby on short notice
  • Additional mooring ropes to be made fast when occasion demands
  • Sufficient crew on board to tackle any emergency
  • No immobilization of main engines
  • Continuous watch on VHF Channel 13
  • During foul weather, CB, LB2, BMCT 1 and SB vessels to be berthed facing south
  • No cold move permitted except in emergency
