Monsoon conditions over Northeast Bay

The well-marked low over the central part of North Bay and adjoining area has concentrated into a monsoon depression over Northeast Bay and adjoining area (near Lat5 20.4 deg. N and Long 91.5 deg. E), centred at 6am today [1 August] about 205km south of Chittagong Port, 125kim south of Cox’s Bazar Port, 310km southeast of Mongla Port and 220km southeast of Payra Port. It is likely to intensify further and move in a northwesterly direction.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 44k of the depression centre is about 40kph rising to 509kph in gusts/squalls. Sea will remain moderate near the depression centre.

The maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted Local Cautionary Signal No. Three (R) Three.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to take shelter immediately until further notice.
