Mines adrift in the Black Sea

28 Apr 2022 / Black Sea, Turkey

The Istanbul & Marmara, Aegean, Mediterranean, Black Sea Regions Chamber of Shipping has issued a warning of the possibility of mines adrift in the Black Sea (Circular No.38591462-430.99-2022-1876 dated 26 April 2022).

All ships sailing in the Black Sea are warned and if mines are detected, Turkish Radio, Main Search and Rescue Coordination Center, Navy Operations Center and Security Operations Center (SOC) should be notified.

Mine surveillance activities from the air, sea, and land were initiated by the Naval Forces Command, and three mines were reported to have been detected and neutralized.

For reports of the presence of mines or suspicious objects, it is important to provide as much detailed information as possible (detection time, location, ship/person making the notification, visual description of the object, and, if possible, a photograph, etc.) to notify the relevant institutions immediately.
