Cylone Michaung has pummelled Chennai and its neighbouring districts non-stop after heavy rain since Sunday (3 December) with several areas of Chennai inundated due to heavy rainfall and severe waterlogging.
Michaung is likely to move parallel to the South Andhra coast and make landfall as a severe cyclonic storm between Nellore and Machilipatnam at midday today (5 December). It is expected to bring gales with speeds of 90-100km per hour, gusting up to 110km per hour.
According to the latest information, the cyclone Michaung is currently 35km east-northeast of Kavali, 70km from Nellore and 90km south-southeast of Bapatla.
Weather agencies predict that harsh weather conditions in the state and nearby cities will prevail until Thursday.
Conditions at ports in the impacted area are as follows:
TUTICORIN
Cargo operations/vessel movements continue as normal. Distant Warning Signal No. II has been hoisted.
PARADIP/DHAMRA
Port operations continue normal.
CHENNAI/ENNORE/KARAIKAL
Cyclone crossed the region last night. Cargo operations and vessel movements have resumed.
VIZAG
Inward movements resumed at 1400 hrs on 05/12/2023.
Cargo operations continue as normal with intermittent stoppages due to rain.
Storm Flag 3 has been hoisted.

GANGAVARAM
Inward movements commenced at 1400 hrs on 05/12/2023. Re-berthing of the three shifted vessels are under progress.
In view of heavy rolling at Berths No 1, 4 and 8, the port has shifted working vessels to anchorage. Working vessels are retained at Berths No 3, 5 & 6 and the cargo operations are under progress.
Storm Flag No. 3 has been hoisted.
