Low water forecast

06 Sep 2023 / Columbia River/Portland, United States

The Port of Portland has advised that periods of low water identified in the Northwest River Forecast Center (NWRFC) preseason Lower Columbia Low Stage Outlook are imminent.

The current forecast (days one to three) and trend (days four to ten) predict lows at or below 0.0ft CRD starting on 8 September through the end of the trend period on the 15 September.

Currently the lowest predicted levels at Vancouver are -0.08 ft CRD on 8 September and -0.03 ft CRD on 9 September.

Water levels at this time of year are heavily influenced by operations at Bonneville Dam and increased/decreased power demand can cause higher/lower levels than predicted.
