Industrial action at Australian ports

Restrictions at Port Kembla as a result of MUA industrial action and ongoing negotiations will commence Friday 27 September for a 14-day period. Whilst a number of bans and limitations are the same as previous restrictions, there are some new bans which are marked below:

1. An 8-hour stoppage from when the vessel ties up at the berth.

2. Will only work 8-hour shifts.

3. Will only commence work at 0700, 1500 and 2300.

4. There will be no shift extensions.

5. Will not perform shift pre-starts.

6. Will not work during meal breaks or other breaks.

7. Once the start time is ordered, they will not accept any variation to that start time.

8. Will not accept any call-ins outside of allocated shifts.

9. Will not accept any upgrades to Grade 7 (Supervisor).

10. Will only drive up to 15km/h on the wharf for PCC/RoRo operations.

11. Will not transfer between berths or sites once allocated to work.

12. Will not use personal phones for work purposes while on shift.

13. A ban on ordering back an employee for a subsequent shift whilst on shift as per EBA clause 1.6.9 of Part B.

14. Will not work between 2300-0700 from 2300 Monday 7 October to 0700 Thursday 10 October *NEW*

15. 24-hour stoppage from 0700 Saturday 5 October 2024 *NEW*

16. 24-hour stoppage from 0700 Sunday 6 October 2024 *NEW*

Items 15 and 16 are essentially a 48-hour stoppage of work from 0700 Saturday 5 October to 0700 Monday 7 October 2024.

The bans will be temporarily halted on 27 September whilst negations are ongoing.
