Increase in VAT rate

Value added tax rate has increased in Saudi Arabia under royal order number A/638, enforcing the application of the VAT rate increase in KSA effective July 1, 2020 onwards.

Article 2 of the VAT law has been amended to reflect the VAT rate increase from 5% to 15%. Additional transitional guidelines have been provided by GAZT on its website.

Supply made on or before 30 June 2020 shall be subject to 5% VAT. Supply made from 1 July 2020 onward shall be subject to 15% VAT.

If contract was signed prior 11 May 2020 and supply continues after 1 July 2020 then 5% VAT shall be applied until:

  • The expiry date of the contract, or
  • The renewal date of the contract, or
  • 30 June 2021

Revised VAT rates shall be applicable on GAC Saudi invoices / services as per the guidelines, effective from 1 July 2020.
