Heavy weather & monsoon preparedness

In view of the heavy weather and monsoon in the coast if Karnataka, it is advised to take all necessary safety precautions…

…Masters of vessels are advised to take all necessary measures for the safety of their crew, vessel and environment in compliance with SOLAS and MARPOL including under the power vested in them as per SOLAS chapter V, regulation 34-1 and ISM Code section 5.2.

  1. VTS to increase the frequency of weather updates and transmit including navigational safety messages to all vessels. Comply with laid down SOPs and remain alert at all times.
  2. All port floating crafts to be secured/moored and monitored continuously. AMF to monitor VHF radio channel 16 & 12 for advisory. All marine staff to comply with laid down SOPs.
  3. Vessel agents to inform vessel master at berth and or at anchorage to obtain frequent weather reports/warnings by all available means, monitor VHF Channel 16 & 12, to keep good navigational, anchor and port watches. The vessel master shall keep the vessel’s engines & winches on standby and in complete readiness for use. The vessel master shall ensure proper and frequent monitoring of vessel’s position, pay out more cables on anchor and take all & heavy weather precautions as per prevailing circumstances and conditions.
  4. Vessel agents are advised to inform their respective vessels in the berth to tend to moorings at all times with additional mooring and wires ropes, keep the winches ready for us and engines on standby at all times for manoeuvring and obtain frequent weather reports.
  5. All floating crafts of the Indian Customs/Coast Guard/Service Boat/Bunker barge etc which are unable to move out to sea are to be manned and moored properly with additional hawsers/ropes and will keep their engines on complete standby and winches in readiness.
  6. Un-loaders/loaders, gantry cranes, wharf cranes, loading arms, hoses, harbour mobile cranes and other associated loading equip0ment to be secured when not in use and stored in stowage position and secured/lashed adequately.
  7. All containers, specially empty ones, to be secured and lashed. All loose cargo gears to be stowed in a proper secured position after use…
