Cyclone Gulab made landfall at Kalingaptnam on Sunday evening, leaving a trail of destruction in the north coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh. More than 10cm of rain was recorded yesterday (27 September) and many low-lying habitations have been flooded as rains continue to lash the State.
The cyclone has fizzled into a Depression but the system’s westward movement has raised a red alert for Maharashtra region on WCI with the IMD forecasting extremely heavy/heavy to very heavy rainfall today. The storm is expected to turn into a well-marked low pressure area today and emerge in the northeast Arabian sea and Gujarat coast around Thursday.
Below are status updates from the ports of Vizag & Gangavaram:
Vizag
Inward/outward movements suspended from 1830 on 26 September. Inwards movements for WQ7 expected to resume.
Cargo operations at East Quay berths (captive for sensitive cargoes – grain, fertilizer etc) suspended due to flooding at the jetty. Port is in process of making arrangements to clear the wharf and the wharf is expected to be ready today (28 September).
Cargo operations at mechanized berths (Ore Berths I, II and coal berths) expected to resume today.
Gangavaram
Cargo operations resumed by 1700 hours yesterday (27 September).
Inward/outward movements restored by 1730 hours (27 September).
