The Federal Transport Authority (FTA) decided to consider that expired certificates related to certificates of competency, certificate of proficiency, other certificates issued to seafarers, medical certificates, and endorsements attesting recognition of certificates in accordance with the STCW Convention 1978, as amended, valid for a period of 3 months, starting from 3/26/2020.
In addition, FTA will work within the port state control system on ships to which the STCW Convention applies, and will take practical approach regarding inspection of all seafarers’ certificates, and consider all extensions on these certificates and its endorsements is acceptable when exercising control procedures in accordance with Article X (and Regulation 1/4) (Control Procedures) of the STCW of 1978, as amended.
