Force Majeure Event declared

08 Dec 2020 / Krishnaptnam, India

Krishnapatnam Port Company Ltd has declared a Force Majeure at the port with effect from 001 hours local time on 25 November. This comes after two successive storms – Nivar and Burevi – hit the eastern part of the country on 24 November and 3 December, bringing heavy rains, wind, swell and strong currents.

Although precautionary measures were taken to minimize the impact, there has been a considerable reduction in charted depths in the port waters which may result in the port reducing the allowable draft or being unable to perform its obligations. There has also been huge siltation due to the storms which will take some time to remove and restore the safe channel.

Ships drawing less than 16 metres will continue to be handled without restrictions.

The port has notified a “Force Majeure Event” wherein it will not be responsible for any claims, damages, charges, etc.
