The Kiel Canal Authority has announced a mandatory extension of closure of the Big New South Lock at Brunsbuettel until 16 August, due to unforeseen additional maintenance works.
The following vessels will be obliged to accept tug assistance in order to protect the lock gates:
- All vessels (traffic group 3 or higher) entering the locks first; and
- All vessels (traffic group 3 or higher) entering the locks behind the first vessel and running risk of hitting the lockgate directly
For vessels (traffic group 3 or higher) entering the locks with no risk of hitting the lockgate directly, tug assistance will be not compulsory.
