Ex-Tropical Cyclone Lincoln: ports monitoring

The ports of Dampier, Ashburton, Cape Preston West, Varanus Island and Port Hedland are at Cyclone Alert Stage 1 – Monitor.

Vessel Masters shall ensure:
- Vessels' engines and machinery are fully operational.
- Vessels' stability, trim, and propeller immersion are appropriate.
- Vessels' manning, stores and bunkers are adequate for departure.
- Preparations are made in accordance with their respective cyclone response plan.

Terminal/berth operators are to ensure that:
- The latest cyclone forecasts are taken into account when planning operations over the coming days.
- The response plan accounts for time required for vessels to clear the port and the approaching tropical system safely.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology update at 0800 hours local time today (19 February), ex-Tropical Cyclone Lincoln is located well inland near the Western Australia and Northern Territory border and moving west. It will continue to move west through the Kimberley and is expected to move over water off the Kimberley coast on Wednesday.

Once offshore Ex-Tropical Cyclone Lincoln is expected to move towards the southwest and strengthen, redeveloping into a tropical cyclone on Thursday.

On Friday Lincoln is likely to turn towards the south and approach the west Pilbara coast as a category 2 tropical cyclone. There is a significant risk that it strengthens further to become a severe tropical cyclone prior to when it crosses the coast which is expected either late Friday or during Saturday.
