Owners, operators, masters, coxswains and persons-in-charge of vessels are advised that establishment of three principal fairways, one anchorage and one pilot boarding station in the southwestern waters of Hong Kong come into effect on 5 May 2023.
The boundaries of the three new principal fairways, namely the West Lamma Fairway, the South Shek Kwu Chau Fairway and the Soko Fairway are specified in items (1) to (3) of Appendix respectively…
…Arising from the establishment of new principal fairways, the Recommended Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) in the waters south of Cheung Chau will be repealed... …Two safe water marks were withdrawn and three cardinal marks were established on 31 March 2023. The details of the withdrawal and establishment of light buoys were promulgated in MDN No. 51/2023.
Masters, coxswains and persons-in-charge of vessels are reminded to strictly comply with Rule 9 (Narrow Channels) of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, 1972 when navigating within the boundaries of all principal fairways in the waters of Hong Kong.
Vessels navigating in the vicinity of the South Cheung Chau Anchorage, the South Shek Kwu Chau Fairway and the Hong Kong Offshore Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal (the Terminal) should also pay attention to the establishment of the Safety Zone (SZ) and Marine Control Zone (MCZ) for the Terminal to the east of Soko Islands with effect from 1 October 2022. The details of the SZ and MCZ of the Terminal were promulgated in MDN No. 192/2022. Vessels not attending the Terminal should proceed with caution and keep clear of the SZ and MCZ of the Terminal.
