Dredging Works at Cheung Chau Ferry Pier

20 Apr 2023 / Hong Kong

With immediate effect and for a period of approximately four months, dredging operations will be carried out within the works area bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (A) to (D) and the adjacent shoreline:

(A) 22° 12.483’N 114° 01.721’E

(B) 22° 12.483’N 114° 01.667’E

(C) 22° 12.547’N 114° 01.667’E

(D) 22° 12.547’N 114° 01.712’E

The works will be carried out by one derrick lighter. One hopper barge and one tugboat will provide assistance. Vessels engaged in the works will display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.

The dredged materials will be conveyed to the hopper barge anchored within the transshipment area bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (E) to (H):

(E) 22° 12.681’N 114° 01.292’E

(F) 22° 12.666’N 114° 01.329’E

(G) 22° 12.631’N 114° 01.314’E

(H) 22° 12.646’N 114° 01.276’E

Transshipment of dredged materials will take place in this area. The lighter assisted by the tugboat will deliver the dredged materials to the hopper barge from time to time.

A working area of approximately 50 metres around the lighter will be established. Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the positions of the anchors extending from the lighter and hopper barge.

A silt curtain, extending from the sea surface to the seabed, will be established within the works area. Yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the extent of the silt curtain.

The hours of work will be from 0700 to 1900 hours daily. No works will be carried out on Sundays and public holidays. Vessels employed for the works will stay in the transshipment area outside the hours of work.

Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution.
