Dredging Operations in Shing Mun River Channel, Sha Tin

15 Aug 2024 / Sha Tin

With immediate effect and for a period of approximately three months, dredging operations will be carried out within the following areas.

WORKS AREA
This area is bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (A) to (D) and the adjacent shore line:
(A) 22° 23.401’N / 114° 12.025’E
(B) 22° 23.340’N / 114° 12.098’E
(C) 22° 23.189’N / 114° 11.952’E
(D) 22° 23.249’N / 114° 11.879’E

The works will be carried out by a flotilla of vessels including one derrick lighter, one hopper barge, one backhoe pontoon, two bucket pontoons and two tugboats. The number of vessels engaged in the works will change from time to time to suit operational requirements. Vessels engaged in the works will display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.

The dredged materials will be conveyed to the hopper barge anchored within the transhipment area bounded by straight lines joining the following coordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (E) to (H):

TRANSSHIPMENT AREA
(E) 22° 24.941’N / 114° 13.150’E
(F) 22° 24.904’N / 114° 13.194’E
(G) 22° 24.864’N / 114° 13.155’E
(H) 22° 24.900’N / 114° 13.111’E

Transshipment of dredging materials will take place in this area. The lighter assisted by the tugboat will deliver the dredged materials to the hopper barge from time to time.

A working area of approximately 20 metres around the working vessels will be established. Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the positions of the anchors extending from the working vessels.

Silt curtains, extending from the sea surface to the seabed, will be established within the works area. The silt curtain is a large piece of netting used to contain mud and sediments. Yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the extent of the silt curtains.

The hours of work will be from 0700 to 1900 hours. No works will be carried out on Sundays and public holidays. Vessels employed for the works will not stay in the works area and transhipment area outside the hours of work.

Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution.
