Draft restored after ship channel anomaly removed

24 Feb 2022 / Corpus Christi, United States

The maximum deep draft at the port of Corpus Christi has been restored to 45 feet, following the removal of an anomaly in the ship channel.

After the anomaly was reported on 11 February, a survey and dredging was conducted and it was found to be a mound of mud, which has now been removed.

When the surveys of the anomaly were performed and other recent surveys were reviewed, severe shoaling on the shoulders and into the toe of the channel in that area was discovered, leading to a one-way restriction – only for meeting/overtaking traffic in that area.

The remainder of the ship channel is restored to the maximum draft of 45 feet, and two-way traffic is permitted.
