Disruption due to heavy rain continue

28 Aug 2024 / Gujarat, India

As a deep depression moves further into Gujarat, the state continues to bear the brunt of the heavy downpour, disrupting normal life.

Heavy rainfall battered the region during the past 24 hours with forecasts predicting heavy rainfall to continue for the next 24 hours, accompanied by strong winds with speeds ranging 55-65 kmph reaching up to 75 kmph.

Heavy rainfall created a flash floods like situation in several places, severely impacting transport movement across the state, leading to significant disruptions in the supply chain and logistics sector. The relentless downpour on yesterday (27 August) caused waterlogging on major highways, bringing transportation operations almost to a halt.

The weather system is expected to continue its slow west-south-westward trajectory across the Saurashtra and Kachchh regions. It is projected to reach the coast and adjacent areas of Pakistan and the northeast Arabian Sea by the morning of 29 August.

A respite from the rain is expected in the coming days as the deep depression hovering over the Saurashtra-Kachchh and north Gujarat regions is expected to move out of the affected areas by this evening.
