Depression over southeast Bay of Bengal

The deep depression over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining area moved further north-northwestwards and lay over the same area (neat Lat 8.9°N, Lon 88.8°E) and was centred at 1200 noon today (10 May) about 1515km south of Chattogram Port, 1435km south of Cox’s Bazar Port, 1510km south-southeast of Mongla Port and 1465km south-southeast of Payra Port.

It is likely to intensify further and move in a north-northwesterly direction until 11 May. Thereafter, it is likely to recurve gradually and move north-northeastwards.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 48km of the deep depression centre is about 50kph rising to 60kph in guysts/squalls. Sea will remain rough near the deep depression centre.

The maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted Distant Cautionary Signal No. One (R) One.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bayt and Deep Sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution. They are also advised not to venture into deep sea.
