Cyclonic Storm warning

14 May 2021 / Gujarat, India

The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning of a possible Cyclonic Storm that might hit the western parts of Gujarat in the Arabian Sea on or around May 18-19.

A low-pressure area is likely to form today (14 May) over the Southeast Arabian sea and is likely to move north and northwestward across the Southeast Arabian sea adjoining the Lakshadweep islands by tomorrow (15 May).

The low pressure area over Lakshadweep is now lying as a well-marked low pressure area over the same region.

It is very likely to concentrate into a depression during the next 24 hours and intensify further into a cyclonic storm. The cyclone is expected to continue to move north-north westwards for some more time with further intensification, and in the course, areas like Lakshadweep, the coast of Kerala, Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra are to be impacted.

It is then likely to intensify further and move north-northwestwards towards Gujarat and adjoining Pakistan coasts and reach near Gujarat coast around 18 May evening.

Wind speeds of 40-50km per hour are likely to intensify to 70km per hour tomorrow and may reach 80km per hour by Sunday (16 May).
