Cyclone Yaas update (25 May)

Cyclonic Storm YAAS was today (25 May) predicted to intensity into a "Very Severe Cyclonic Storm" in the next 12 hours.

It is currently centred at about 320km from Paradip and 490km from Baleshwar in Odisha. It is expected to continue to move north-northwestwards, intensify further and reach northwest Bay of Bengal near North Odisha and West Bengal coasts by early tomorrow (26 May) morning.

Cyclone YAAS is then very likely to cross north Odisha-West Bengal coasts and make landfall near Dhamra Port in Odisha's Bhadrak district early on Wednesday morning, with a speed of 155 kmph to 165 kmph, gusting to 185 kmph. The impact will be severe for six hours before and after the landfall.

The maximum sustained wind speed is 55 knots, gusting to 65 knots around system centre. Sea conditions will be rough to very rough.
