04 Feb 2025 / Cape Lambert & Dampier, Australia
Two tropical cyclones (Talia and Vince) are currently off the coast of Western Australia, tracking west past the Northwest Cape (Exmouth). The ports of Cape Lambert and Dampier have begun clearing berths to ensure safety.
Dampier is experiencing long-period swell associated with Severe Tropical Cyclone Talia, with several terminals ceasing operations. Conditions at the port’s Public User berths have necessitated the closure of the DCW and BLB.
The swell is forecast to peak overnight into tomorrow (Wednesday 5 January) morning. At that point, with an improving forecast, conditions will be assessed. The berths will be reopened as soon as practicable, depending on local swell conditions allowing safe operations. When determining suitable weather conditions for reopening, vessel type, size, and planned operations alongside will be considered. Any changes to conditions or forecasts will be assessed and relayed to stakeholders as soon as practicable.
