Cyclone makes landfall, weakens to deep depression

Cyclone Mandous has made landfall 30km from Chennai, bringing heavy rain and squally winds which uprooted trees and caused floods and landslides. It crossed the coast between Puducherry and Sriharikota at around 1.30am on Saturday (10 December), before weakening into a deep depression.

The cyclone now lies in north interior Tamil Nadu as a low pressure and continues to bring rains to north Tamil Nadu districts, including Chennai and its neighbouring districts, Bangalore and South Andhra Pradesh.

PORT UPDATES

  • Krishnapatnam: Weather is cloudy and raining in frequent intervals. All operations are happening smoothly, however productivity of vessels have come down due to slow movement of trucks during inter-carting. DC-2 flag in force.
  • Karaikal/Ennore/Chennai: Operations are normal at Chennai, Ennore, Karaikal, except for few hours of rain delays. Light to moderate rainfall to continue over many places over Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal area.
  • Vizag/Gangavaram: Flag No. 2 lowered. Wind speed about 10NM. Sea sweet: 1 metre. Cloudy with intermittent showers.
    Inward/outward movements normal. Intermittent cargo stoppages reported when raining.
  • Tuticorin: Cargo/port operations continue as normal. Cloudy weather.
  • Kakinada: All vessel movements and cargo operations continue as normal. Weather presently clear and fair.
